About The Book

MacCoo's Adventures
The Get-A-Way

Meet MacCoo, a loving and curious Highland Coo, who one day plucks up the courage to step across the brook that divides his familiar pasture from the rest of the world. He goes in search of Sherlee but finding her is only the beginning of his adventures. On his travels, he will learn many things: how to stand up to bullies, the importance of friendship, the joy of competition, and how to say goodbye. Meetings with a new herd as well as a wish-granting magical cow await him, before he returns home to find the greatest treasure of all—the unconditional love of his family. While the young Coo’s story and accompanying illustrations will appeal even to the very young, they will resonate particularly with children between 5-9 years old, who are beginning to be introduced to new experiences outside of the home. The Get-A-Way is the first of a series of adventures featuring the endearing MacCoo.

About The Author

Shirley Leitham

Shirley Leitham first fell in love with Scotland’s iconic, shaggy Highland cattle (or Coo) on a visit to extended family in Perth, when a chance meeting with a young calf became the inspiration for MacCoo’s Adventures, The Get-A-Way. Children, story-telling and creative art have always been a big part of Shirley’s life, in her roles as mother and grandmother. Through volunteering at local elementary schools and the Montreal Children’s Hospital, Shirley also works to help children who are going through difficult experiences. A first-time author, Shirley lives with her husband on ten acres of wooded land in the mountains of Sutton, Quebec. Like MacCoo, she loves to travel
